Today marks my last day at Imperva after three and half amazing years! Huge thank you to management past and present for all your support! Thank you to my colleagues in the sales, technical, marketing, support and ops! Special shout out to Paul Garthside for putting up with me day in day out! To all the channel partners I’ve worked with thank you for welcoming me into your organisations, listening to my enthralling pitches and having patience with my terrible food orders! I’ve enjoyed my time and learned a massive amount about the channel and at times about myself. Looking forward to starting the next chapter on Monday! #CyberSecurity #Channel #Sales #NewChapter

At #BlackHat they gave me business cards and at #DefCon they gave me stickers. What follows is a tale of two security conferences in August, both held in the same week in Las Vegas but with a very different vibe. There is more overlap than difference and I’ve found both to be insightful.Last year I attended BlackHat and this year it was DefCon.My major take away last year was around rising interest in quantified risk, a theme that has served many of us well as we justify the investment in security programs. It is harder to put a theme to DefCon, but having attended demonstrations on new and novel attacks, as well as a panel featuring iconic hackers celebrating the 40th anniversary of CdC we can still say that “hackers log in more often than they break in.”Some things never change. If your career is anchored in corporate defense, you owe it to yourself to spend time in the weeds understanding how attackers think and operate.DefCon is marvelous for this. The experience was unique.Where else can you attend sessions about physical door security, a detailed analysis of state-sponsored supply chain attacks and a delightful story of an improbable diamond heist all in one day?A person can probably only experience 10% of what is on the menu, but it was all top shelf quality. The cultures are different but complementary.I’m personally comfortable to pivot from wearing a necktie to wearing cat ears. Both conferences are our community, and it was nice meeting so many people in Vegas over the past two years.

While integrating Generative AI (GenAI) into cybersecurity is crucial for enhancing threat detection and response, it must be done carefully to address challenges like maintaining accuracy and keeping up with rapidly evolving threats. GenAI systems, if not properly trained, can produce false positives or negatives, leading to either unnecessary disruptions or undetected threats. Additionally, as cyber threats constantly evolve, GenAI systems require continuous updates with the latest threat intelligence to remain effective. However, the application of GenAI in cybersecurity is still relatively premature, meaning the technology is in its early stages and not fully mature. This further emphasizes the need for careful management and cautious integration. When successfully integrated, though, GenAI can significantly improve efficiency, accelerate response times, and enhance the ability to predict and prevent sophisticated attacks, making it a powerful tool in modern cybersecurity.
