After a busy first six months at Ardent, I really enjoyed attending my first All Energy Conference yesterday with Kieran Ward. It was great to catch up with people, meet some new contacts and explore some of the latest innovations to help Scotland and the UK reach net-zero targets.

There's a growing realisation about how coordinating distributed energy resources (think batteries, EVs, etc) is going to be absolutely key to a stable and rapid energy transition. If you're headed to All Energy next week, stop by to find out more about how Amber's created a new model of energy retailing and a different kind of virtual power plant - ones that put the interests of energy consumers above those of the provider, in order to incentivise consumer participation and accelerate the renewable shift. #AllEnergy2023 #EnergyTransition #DemandResponse #RenewableEnergy

Recently, we had a successful kick-off of our BMWK-supported project WINDbreaks: "Enhanced Wind-Turbine-Power in complex terrain using natural windbreaks." To reach our climatic goals, we need more wind turbines in forested and complex terrain. But how do obstacles like trees influence the inflow of a wind turbine? Is there a speed-up effect? If so, could we use this effect to enhance wind turbine power? What would a technical approach look like? These are some questions we will work on in our project. More information about our project can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eVRZDKrV Partners are: Hochschule Ansbach - University of Applied Sciences, OPTOLUTION Messtechnik GmbH, N-ERGIE Aktiengesellschaft, Opitz Großbaumverpflanzung GmbH & Co. Today I had the honor and pleasure to present our strategic direction towards 2026, now moving into the next phase, the implementation. I will be looking forward, together with many great colleagues in Nordic RCC, supporting the Nordic Transmission Operators, in the transition of the energy sector which currently are ongoing with a high pace and which will be a key contributor for European Union targets to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 per cent by 2030. <Purpose>Bridging Nordic power systems to enable the green energy transition<What we do>We provide critical Nordic and European services and insights to Transmission System Operators for the benefit of society<How we do it>Through collaboration, we proactively enable Transmission System Operators to optimise beyond their individual capabilities<Why we do it> We digitalise to increase security (supply of electricity), efficiency, and transparency of Nordic power systems

Such relevant subjects addressed. Some takeaways: Since massive integration of inverter-based resources (PV, wind), needed to include in formula the convenience of interdepence on neighbors (often missing) and peak time switching strategies to soften the called duck chest slope. Strong grid meaning solid voltage and frequency stability is driven by the contribution of synchronous resources (Nuclear, hydro, CC).
